Economic and Food Security Impact of Agricultural Input Reduction Under the European Union Green Deal’s Farm to Fork and Biodiversity Strategies

The European Commission has proposed strategies that would impose restrictions on EU agriculture through targeted reductions in the use of land, antimicrobials, fertilizers, and pesticides. We perform a range of policy simulations to examine the economic implications of several of the proposed targets, finding reduction in global agriculture production, higher prices, less trade, and more global food insecurity.
