Who We Are

The Foreign Agricultural Service’s (FAS) Pretoria office represents the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in Southern Africa.

Working from the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, the mission of the Office of Agricultural Affairs is to represent the interests of U.S. agriculture and promote the sale of American food, agricultural, fishery, and forestry products in the Southern Africa region, which includes Angola, Botswana, eSwatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. FAS also has two satellite offices in the region staffed by local agricultural specialists in Angola and Mozambique.

The Office provides trade services both for local companies seeking U.S. products and for U.S. companies wishing to develop markets in the region.

FAS has the primary responsibility for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) international activities—trade policy, market development and export assistance, international development and capacity building, and the collection and analysis of statistics and market information.
